Kaufbeuren

Between narrow streets and ancient walls – Kaufbeuren with its medieval old town will enchant you: Within the sight of the town`s landmark, the Fünfknopfturm (five-button tower), and only a few steps from the famous Crescentia monastery, the Old Town Apartments are the ideal starting point to explore the historic city center. An absolute peculiarity is the town wall built around the year 1200 and still well preserved today with its two towers.

Here you can find a small Picture Gallery of Kaufbeuren`s old town (many thanks to Peter Ernszt, Michael Gebel, Gabriele Escheu, Walter Brandl und Doris Wenzel from AKF Kaufbeuren for allowing the use of the pictures).

In addition to the Crescentia memorial, the city museum, the rustic fire department museum, the playful puppet theater museum, or the modern “kunsthaus kaufbeuren” offer historical and cultural interesting sights.

But in addition to history and culture, the old town also invites you to stroll through individual shops, and to linger in one of the numerous street cafes and restaurants.

Here you can download the brochure Tour of the Old Town free of charge (including the old town map and overview of the sights). The brochure is also available free of charge in our apartments.

In Neugablonz, the largest district of Kaufbeuren, North-Bohemian expellees ventured a new start more than 60 years ago and founded their industry there. The “Trail of Jewelery” theme walk, the “Isergebirgs-museum” and the adventure exhibition will take you to the present and the history of the jewelry industry.

In 2001 Crescentia was sanctified by Pope John Paul II. It is the first German saint of the 3rd millennium. Many people come annually to pray in the monastery church or to learn more about this extraordinary Franciscan at the memorial in the Crescentia Monastery (see also http://www.kaufbeuren-tourismus.de/pilgern/hl-crescentia.html).
